Perut Oh Perut

Kenapa engkau sakit?

Perut says:
Macam mana aku tak sakit?
Keli Masak Cuka!

For over 50 years I’ve basically eaten whatever that could be eaten with barely a twinge from the old food-processor. Though it was barely noticeable, things started to change in my fifth decade. And now it’s getting to be a tad picky about what I throw into it’s rumbling folds.

Perut oh perut
Kenapa tak ngam cuka?

Perut says:
Macam mana aku nak ngam?
“Lining” semakin tua!

I was at this cafeteria somewhere in Putrajaya where they had a buffet lunch spread. My weakness - ikan keli –  looked appetising fried and glazed with some kind of sauce. Also the Urap Pucuk Paku looked a good bet as a complement. I had both with a palm-sized portion of white rice.

Perut oh perut
Kenapa engkau sakit?

Perut says:
Macam mana aku tak sakit?
Lauk berlawan-lawan

OK, the ikan keli tasted sweetish-tangy like it was bathed in vinegar but it was certainly delicious. I polished off the whole fish in no time. The urap or was it kerabu was also nice. The ulam looked fresh, not too over-blanched (or wasn’t it?), with just enough grated coconut to look presentable. But maybe something in there wasn’t clean enough?

Perut oh perut
Baru sikit dah sakit?

Perut says:
Macam mana aku tak sakit?
Kena pulak roti canai mamak!

Including the dhall curry and teh tarik later at 5 pm. I was entertaining my companion who was hungry and headachey…. honest.

And Perut continues:
Dan Sambal Tumis Udang sama Nasi Lemak pada malam nyerrrr….

But they were good - I made them myself!

Next morning Perut woke me up with cramps and grumbles and venomous poisons. I was housebound two whole days, the second day as a precautionary measure.

Perut warns:
Orang oh orang
Kenapa engkau gelojoh?
Makanlah untuk hidup
Bukan untuk aniaya aku!

Ahh Perut, what a painful thing your retribution. I hear you, I hear you.
Look what I missed the first day.

Amin, back from KK for a few days was clamouring for some Arabian
P4060024
Wonder who the girls got their appetites from?

And all I had was bland rice porridge with a pinch of anchovies.
And plenty of yogurt drinks.

Seems I’m OK today but did I heed  Perut?

For dinner last night - Butter Prawns and Tenggiri Masak Kicap with Soo Hoon.
Nasi Goreng for breakfast.
Chicken Rice for lunch.
Mum’s Mee Goreng for tea.
And ONLY FRUITS FOR DINNER.

Bangau oh bangau
Kenapa aku tak kurus?

Bangau says:
Macam mana kau nak kurus
INSAF SUSAH TIMBUL
INSAF SUSAH TIMBUL

Memanglah begitu…. (sigh)

Salam Puan,

Bila perut rasa tak enak cepat-cepat minum air kelapa muda minus the isi. No syrup added too. Cubalah. My remedy to diarrhea. Insyaallah.

Insaf betul baca entri kanda kali ni. your perut...was it because the perut became polarised and 'manja-manja ala ngada-ngada gitu' after spending some intimate time with the Kazakh's delicacies recently?

Naz, there is some truth in that theory esp. for people who had sensitive tums in childhood and got much better as they age :)
But for me, didn't understand what was tummy ache until I had my first food-poisoning at 20 years old and a milder episode maybe 10 years later. And now Perut says enough lah....

salam kembali Lili,

Thanks very much for the tip. I hope there won't BE a next time for me to try it, but coconut-water is well known for it's minerals and nutrient content and certainly it must be an effective remedy.

But have you heard of the pantang-larang orang tua2 re air kelapa and nenas? To be totally abstained by ladies still menstruating, but when pregnant air kelapa is highly recommended :)

Dinda DrSam, especially for you - the one with no gall-bladder kena berhati-hati (ie. your hati has to take over gall-bladder's function). Lagi pulak with an impaired protein digestion, insaf dinda insaf hahaha.

But YOU'RE RIGHT, that's IT! Perut had been manja'd by healthy Kazakh cuisine - eleh ngada-ngada kau Perut...

Hi Zen,

If ever there’s one, this would be considered a Gluttonous faux pas…kakaka. Cantonese says ‘Tai Seh’ literal translation means ‘deserve to die’ but to put it mildly it means u ‘ask for it’ :))

Let’s face up to it lah Puan Zendra, we r no longer as resilient as we used to it, so take it easy & refrain yourself from over indulgence esp spicy food…..kakaka looks who’s talking. However for men, it’s ok because we had developed a pouch to counteract this problem…kekeke. Not to mention, it’s a symbol for prosperity too (cukup makan).

BTW, Have u tried massaging your tummy with minyak cap kapak? I mean DIY not by any Thai masseur like those pampered mem :)))

Cheers,

Tummy Yum

P/S – FYI - Obesity has become the numoro uno medical problem (in developed countries)of the 21st century.

Zendra,

,,,just drink rice water jika sakit perut. Boil satu cawan beras in periuk to make one glass of rice water from it and just drink the water.

I'll guess that the culprit is the urap pucuk paku.

But why worry, makan lah selagi ada selera :-)

Dear Tom Yum,
Thanks for the reminder about my age. So your pouch is a sign of prosperity. Mine is a sign of procreative productivity - so much more zen than merely cukup makan :)

Aiyoh, capt recommended minyak gamat and now you minyak cap kapak. Like this RA sure cabut cos room smelling like old folks home.

Am OK now lah, a little detox once in a while is good. Still good to go :D

mamasita, the way I eat - like the cantonese apek say i deserve the tummy upset huhuhu

reminder, reminder.....

Yo capt, I did post the rice-water remedy sometime back. I boiled the rice, drank the water dengan nasinya sekali hahaha

Zendra-Maria said...

Oldstock, i like your philosophy - selagi ada selera.... it shows that things are doing fine, right?

If no selera then something's wrong somewhere....

Poor urap jadi suspect... but I think it was the seedless guavas that I had after the nasi lemak dinner that did it. They have laxative properties apparently and a milder episode this morning is proof hehe (sorry)
