Nobody's Picture Perfect

I found a picture of me when I was 14 years of age - now I am 42 and a half years older.

Studying it closely, I noticed that my face was / is assymetrical especially my chin senget, and my eyes sepet sebelah.

I remember my hair was parted at the centre in primary school, but I must have changed it according to the fashion of the time, I suppose. There's nothing one can do with straight hair except change partings anyway.

They say symmetry is a sign of beauty - as perceived by the beholder.

I wondered how that face would look if it was symmetrical.

Out of curiosity, I did some cutting and pasting.

 Snipped my left-side and right-side.
 See the difference already?

Flipped them to get their respective mirror images.

 And then combined them.

See the results!
Left symmetrically
(like an Inca Indian)

Right symmetrically
(A softer look but don't know what to call the hair-style)

But what God created is still the best

And 42 years on... still lopsided

Tak apa lah.... yang penting, hati mau baik beb....

Cheers,
Tommy

P/S- I'd got center parting/short fringe in school too (even now); friends called that the 'mati kena kapak' hairdo :))

Salam Kak Zen,

Betul kak, hati mau baik! I know you're one good soul!

I think I have a picture of at the age of seven exactly posing like yours. Hmm...gonna try and do some 'testing' like you did! Hehe!

Er... I can't help laughing at Unker Tommy's 'mati kena kapak' hairdo! ;=D

hey, Zen..men don't go for things symmetrical..be it face or whatever..haven't you noticed that even at that age you got more boys wanting to 'friend you' as against those symmetrical things..it is those lil faults and mis-shapened things that adds allure to a face..like my pouting lips and lil nose..:) come on, Tommy, I was once alluring, too..
cheers..

Aiyoh Tommy, bet your centre-parting is way up on your crown now - but can still guide the kapak - ok lah.

No, I've never spent much time infront of the mirror on the wall - only enough to ask whether I'm the fairest of them all and the answer is always pleasing to hear :)))

Lili, it was fun to do and the outcome was a bit surprising heheh. Put them up in your blog and we all can see how cute you were then :)

Me a good soul? Hahaha there's puhlenty3 to improve on, just lacking in discipline - hai... biler, biler...

Pakmat, the man I married had severe astigmatism and probably my face had appeared symmetrical to him due to that condition hence implying a picture of perfect beauty hehehe. And vice versa, all those symmetrical objects appeared lopsided to him...

Thank God for that :)

I feel like giving your profile pic the same treatment mine had - are you game?

I read somewhere, sometimes ago that there's a template that would fit if your Facial structure is endowed and blessed. If my picture is to be used, there would be lot of irregularities.Anyway, syukur alhamdullilah.
If I'm not mistaken, there was a docu on that too

betul tu beb! hati mau baik. This is so fascinating -if i were to do this, it'd be a work Picasso - hidung ke mana, mulut ke mana. oh, at that age, i was so tembam!

Kak Zen, what is 'picture perfect' anyway? Beauty is after all, in the eye of the beholder. You'll always be perfect to your loved ones no matter dagu senget or mata sepet. All that matters is a perfect heart, and that, I'm sure you have =)

Kak Zen,

The other aspect of beauty that is more important, I think, is proportion. Mathematicians have arrived at what they call the golden ratio which is about 1.618033... ad infinitum. This ratio is used by many architects and painters to create beautiful buildings and paintings.

Of course, when it comes to the real serious stuff... nothing beats the inner beauty.

You must have broken a few hearts 42 years ago...

Hello mokjadeandell, if i put my face on such a template, siang-siang dah tahu akan fail punya - tapi as to blessed or not that's the prerogative of the Creator, methinks... right or not?

And much thanks for dropping by - I enjoyed reading your blog this morning :)

Kak Teh, I was thin but it is surprising that one side of my face was a bit tembam hehehe. Maybe one side of yours was thinner?

Hey it's impossible to get a picasso lah - we're fitting mirror images here :D

Aznin dearie,

My heart is certainly NOT perfect - otherwise I would have been an angel :)))

BUT YOU ARE SUCH A SWEETIE for saying the NICEST things!!!

Zendra-Maria said...

Oldstock, oh gosh I'm all OUT of proportion and I shan't tell you where the ratio's not golden :)

Inner beauty radiates out, they say - the NUR, cahaya, light, whatever, which this common mortal is seriously lacking in. Too much wordly thoughts lah...

And as to the heartbreaking, let's leave that to Elvis Presley who got married 42 years ago ;)

Tommy, pheww i must be in possession of some ancient warrior dna from China! I'm sure the disney guys knew what they were doing when they depicted Mulan like that :)

But maybe I'm just half my mum and half my dad. I'll have to study their pics sometime.
