Lodgings On Stilts.

Seems to be where I ended up on recent getaways

Firstly at Captain's Longhouse (picture nicked from www.TripAdvisor.ie)

Then at Awi's Yellowhouse (well, have not stayed there yet but we had checked it out and paid a courtesy call on THE Awi... a chiseled 58 year-old Ganuman with a pony-tail, and we had also bantered with the housekeeper - an ageing eccentric Englishman named Tony who had offered to make us a cuppa, as is quite typical).

And recently at the Avillion in Port Dickson. I'm not sure how it's pronounced so let me just call it Avi.

All three are close to or even on huge bodies of water, hence the need to be raised on stilts, above levels at high-tide or during the monsoon.

Both Avi and Awi's have the same design concept - that of a traditional fishing village with dwellings above water.

Awi's is rustic, back-to-basics, no frills accomodation, with old-fashioned roofless bathrooms.

Avi's chalets are luxuriously furnished - ours had a romantic feel with a king-sized poster-bed draped in nettings - and a queen-sized day bed by the french windows overlooking the sea.

What's similar to Awi's is the open-air bathroom but in tasteful finishing and the ubiquitous white fluffy towels and...... a private flush loo

As with the other places, we were there for only one night but we thoroughly enjoyed the ambience. There's a pet farm where you can pet and feed the animals.

Our chalet
The "luxurious" spa is across from us - a few hundred RM a go

Overlooking The Straits of Malacca
Low tide
Exploring... in the rain
Walkway (trying out a ghostly effect...)
Which is which - lidah jin or jarum tujuh?

That's all, folks!

To all Muslims, may all your good efforts this Ramadan be blessed by the Almighty.

Kak zen, we stayed at avillion's water chalet once and despite the romantic bedroom setting, i couldn't sleep a wink. My mistake was that i took a peep at the seawater underneath at night (kan kat shower dia ada lubang boleh nampak air kat bawah kan?). It looked black and scary, like anything could be staring back at me from down there! And the thought that I was on water, not solid ground. Sheesh! I've got a serious case of paranoia, I tell ya...

Hi Zendra, just dropped by to wish you and family a pleasant puasa month.

Wow! Is that Port Dickson? Now I know I've been away long time, ha ha.
Used to fool around Cape Rachardo, swim at 7th mile, stayed at couple of hounted bungalows somewhere there....all around the '60s then.

I remember there's a Military college there, but not sure still there.

And from PD, drive to Malacca, we pass Sungei Udang, Tanjong Bidara, Tanga Batu. (there's a lovely Nyonya lady here, from this village), Tanjong Kling, There was a Shah Motel there, where, ahemm, I had fun....

Holy Smoke! Hey! Not bad, huh? I can still remember....that shows no need to buy that watch with alarm yet, arhaaaa ha ha.

See la, your pics always provoke this Ah Pek mind of mine. Ha ha.
Love your pics,......I must stay there bila balek kampong. Hows the makanan? Bolek tahan?
Have a nice day, Zendra, stay young, Lee.

Hey i'm abit like Aznin, paranoia always worries abt somebody watching me. Cannot even sleep on beds with legs else my mind will wonder as if i hear voices coming from under it...hahaha

Cheers,
Tommy

P/S - RA, did wifey belt out, "I'm singing in the rain" & does a little of her hop & skip routine with the brolley? :))

Aznin, RA and I can't help but sleep like two logs 'cos we had company on the other bed... water underneath notwithstanding. But in the morning it was low tide and looking through the grating there was no water but I was paranoid about abang-gla mentenen dok ngintai2 hehe

Salam Ramadhan to you and family

Thanks for the wishes Lee. Pretty soon it will be Hari Raya, hows about that?

Yes, Port Dickson has changed - there's a lot more concrete and the blue lagoon no longer that colour. The military training camp's still there though, so is the Yacht club. The feel is more "elegant" now as compared to "cowboy town" of the 60's, at least to me.

Your long term memory's still intact but do come back before you need that watch with alarm. But after all that time in frigid Toronto, be prepared to bake here ;)))

You take care, Lee..

Hey Tom-mee, don't be jeles during fasting month - i thought you told everyone you wanted to be good... whaaat lah...

Come lah balik kampong - then you can belanja RA n I for a session at the Avillion Spa - only then i can do a jig with the brolly ala Uncle Charlie hehehe

As for the water paranoia, is it because it makes you feel like "going" more often - you being that age already, it's understandable...
