There was a time when the expletive "BLAST!" was in common usage where I was studying for my degree.
I don't know whether it is still in fashion anymore. Probably not.
More graphic swears and cusses are uttered nowadays to show one's annoyance.
Actually BLAST! sounds quite appropriate especially when someone has managed to get you all worked up and you feel like BLASTING him/her off the face of the earth.
Well, current thinking says to go right ahead.
You can B.L.A.S.T this person and even keep your cool doing it.
Here comes the fun part: the most deafening sound that you hear from this B.L.A.S.T.ing is the silence, perhaps just a murmur.
Because what you're going to do are:
B - Pray that God BLESSES that person, because you
L - LOVE him/her and you love yourself, and you
A - APPRECIATE her/him and you appreciate yourself, and say
S - SORRY for the feelings of resentment you've harboured, and say
T - THANK YOU for being your learning tool
This is how to turn around negative thoughts that eat you up inside into positive ones that calm your nerves.
Being resentful is all about our own self-esteem really, and almost nothing about the other person.
When I read this (in a forum that I had stumbled upon), I remembered Prof. Muhaya's take on this in her Wednesday motivational slot on Radio IKIM.
She said that whenever you feel annoyed with anyone, simply recite surah Al-Fatihah and send the other person your love and forgiveness instead.
Insya Allah there is hikmah (a hidden wisdom) in your action that is beneficial to all involved.
Just thought I'd share.

I do recall BLAST. And I buy into the idea. What I don't get is something we used in primary school: BASKET! What's with that one?

Boe, you had me googling this. So BASKET! is I suspect a shortened form of the term "a basket case" which refers to "An infirm or failing person or thing - unable to function properly. Originally this referred to soldiers who had lost arms and legs and had to be carried by others (in a basket). More recently it has been used to denounce a failing organisation or scheme and is less often applied to people".
I still hear people mutter "mangkok" under their breaths. I wonder whether they know where that came from.
Hi Zendra, yes, I have been hearing this 'blast' fairly often where I am....and terus will know person is from England. Infact only day before heard it from a guy living here when the elevator was slow coming down, with his, 'blast it'!
Ya, when I was in UK used to hear it often, as well the few odd times when watching England movies.
Canadians don't say that, but will say something much more colourful, ha ha. More to do with downloading.
Long ago when I first arrived in Canada used to express 'alamak'! And receiving lots of, 'pardon'? Or 'what you say'?
Took me 3 years to lose that, now it's more 'Holy Smoke'! And of course, sometimes the last word will be the typical Canadian favourite expression...as mentioned, ha ha.

Alamak Lee, so you really use "Holy Smoke" outside of blogging. It's as harmless and antiquated as Batman and Robin and hardly any match to the others that you did not care to mention, HAHAHA! But if I'm in Canada or US and use "Blast it" everytime I'm upset, the authorities would mark me as a terroristess in no time, going by my garb, wouldn't they :P

For years I swore "Shit" until that near death accident when the last word expressed was just that before blacking out (luckily not permanently)
While recuperating at the hospital, I remember being assailed by TV shows after TV shows of people in their dying breaths declaring their Shahidah.
Since then I swore away that swear word. (I have been warned)

Way back in 1965 ( Oh , blast, almost 50 years ago!) I had a boss who would exclaim 'Oh blast' whenever he was told that something was not going as planned.
Fifty years eh Pakcik? That doesn't sound quite so long ago actually.... Oh blast, I'm showing my age again.
