Oh So Sore

Yes, very sore. That was how I felt this morning - achy all over. Monday I had popped back into the gym after a very long hiatus: since the beginning of Ramadan actually, and now it's the last week of Syawal.

With Syawal on its way out, pretty soon I should be rearranging my living-room to it's former minimalist layout of 1 carpet and a 3+2+1 lounge set plus an extra sofa and no coffee table. At present there is another carpet laid with the furniture arranged into 2 separate lounge areas for raya guests. A bit more effort needed to sweep and vacuum that's all, but with the minimalist style it's easier to get round behind the chairs to sweep and to roll the carpet to mop the floor.

Well I had let myself get flabby the last couple of months. Didn't do any serious exercise. I knew I had lost some strength when I could not push the single chair off the carpet. Maybe it wasn't just the whole weight of the chair on the carpet, maybe the carpet itself had exerted some friction on the chair that my puny strength couldn't overcome. Whatever the fact, that was when I knew I had to hit the gym again.

The little weight I lost over the fasting month had returned. Well it was just water anyway. I was so dehydrated and sleep-deprived, exercise was never factored into the daily routine then unless one considers the supplementary terawih prayers a form of exercise. I sweated small buckets, but that was all. Nothing like the totally satisfying drenched t-shirt front and back kind - smalls included.

And so at the gym I only managed half the weights I used to do on the machines. Before that session, 25 mins of easy striding on the strider machine. And finished off with another 25 mins on the stiffer machine which has more resistance on the "pedals".

The 3 poco-poco classes I had taken recently were helpful enough to ease me back into exercising. Otherwise this morning I would not have been just achy and sore, but the more painful achy-breaky as in that line-dancing song Achy-Breaky Heart.

My buddy says we have to set objectives and visualise the target. Well let me declare what my target is:
You see that tall lady in the centre of the stage beside the cowboy in black?

That will be me on the 1st of March 2010 YEEEEE..HAAARRRR!!!

Hi Zenzibra,

Yeah sometimes I’m very sore from all those ‘hard’ work too. Why lah u worry so much, I’m sure my buddy RA ‘loves u just the way u r’, the bigger u r the better, more to love mah, wink2. Hey Harry Cornick Jnr new album got this song too.

Now be serious a bit ok, jokes aside hor, my doctor says ‘love making’ is the best form of exercise. More effective all round, keep u trim, taut & best is all parts of the body gets a work out. The other good thing is it saves u time & money from running around to the Gym, gym fees, leotards can be expensive too. It is oso good for the environment too, u don’t burn petrol by driving to the gym, true or not? Save on travelling time too, so that u can spend more quality time at home communicating with the better half.

Yes your buddy is right when he said; we have to set objectives and “visualise” the target. Ya, Just make sure u get the name right…..muahaha.

Ok, u can target to look like Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders (she’s gorgeous even at 60, look at those long legs), seen here with RS at Royal Albert Hall;

Salam kanda,
I always fascinated with people who can dance in the tune of a music cos I never had the ability to do that myself, ever.

If poco-poco won't get you into your shapely figure, then tap dancing is your next choice I guess kanda?

Dear Tommy, I tell you RA's a worse gym rat than me, actually we signed up on a hubby-wifey package lorr. In fact he just emailed out an article on strength training. I'll forward it to you.

Anyway, why should a doctor advise you on "lovemaking"?. Been neglecting Ah Soh too much lately kah with your youtubing? Tsk,tsk,tsk... hehe At your age lah, you take Ah Soh to gym better. Balik you try and do that other workout - see the difference - I highly recommend one - trust me hohohoh

Chrissie Hynde, Chrissie Hynde lah tapi itu face kalau pakai Hillary Clinton hair-style lagi attractive mah!

Tok Uban, keep those motivation coming - sure need them lah. Attempt the ridiculous? In my instance like what arh? Eating only salad? Aiyohh .... takut jadi bunny lah nanti...

Zendra-Maria said...

Dinda DrSam, if poco-poco and gym won't do it, I guess I must go for the more vigorous tap-dancing indeed - provided my ankles don't twist themselves into one another.

Glad you're back on-line. Hit the gym, you'll get those six-pack, in no time!

Zendra ? What does a teacher make ? (hope you don't mind me using your name ?? hehehe)

Well, the actual answer is...teachers make tonnes of heartache n sorrow, some success n
gratitude but no moneys.

WHAT TEACHERS MAKE

The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life.

One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, "What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?"

He reminded the other dinner guests what they say about teachers: "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."

To stress his point he said to another guest;
"You're a teacher, Zendra. Be honest. What do you make?"

Zendra, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make? (She paused for a second, then began...)

"Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.

I make a C+ feel like the Agong's Medal of Honor.

I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.

You want to know what I make?" (She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table.)

''I make kids wonder.

I make them question.

I make them apologize and mean it.

I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.

I teach them to write and then I make them write. Keyboarding isn't everything.

I make them read, read, read.

I make them show all their work in math. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.

I make my students from all over our states learn everything they need to know both in English/Bahasa while preserving their unique cultural identity.

I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe.

I make my students stand, placing their hand over their heart to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the Rukun Negara, because we live in Malaysia.

Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life."

(Zendra paused one last time and then continued.)

"Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant... You want to know what I make?

I MAKE A DIFFERENCE . What do you make Mr. CEO?"

His jaw dropped, he went silent.

THIS IS WORTH SENDING TO EVERY TEACHER YOU KNOW.

Even all your personal teachers like mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, grandparents, and your spiritual leaders/teachers - or even the human coach/mentor i.e. KapasPirateKing HoHoHoo !!.

Yea Tommy

Why I have to go to the gym, I know for sure!

But what I can never understand is why would so shapely and svelte SYTs would come to my gym and really sweating it out in their leotards or thights.

I can but guess they want to make gym rats of us grey beards?!

I rarely click on video links but somehow I did for this one. The lady in the middle? I don't know - the one on the right, I think, is the most elegant. Her steps throughout the video shows a natural dancer here... so relaxed, knows what she's doing and in total command.

Zendra-Maria said...

Dear Mat, I guess you're right, the lady you prefer looks all subtlety-and-burning-embers, macam mek kelate hahaha but I'm talking structure here and I identify with the lady in the middle-lah.

Hey you must drop by more often, bizzy man.
